We are pleased to announce that one of the main achievements of COP22 was an initial definition of a collaborative roadmap to address financial issues to fight against climate change at the local level. The document, read during the Climate Summit for Local and Regional Leaders by Mr Ahmed Touizi, Vice-President of the Region of Marrakech-Safi, and the two Champions of the Global Climate Action Agenda, Ms Hakima El Haité and Ms Laurence Tubiana, mandates the CCFLA to ensure the implementation of the Marrakech Roadmap for Action in strong coordination with the Global Task Force for Local and Regional Governments.
The Roadmap will launch two important actions:
– For 2017, the launch of a Global Campaign for localizing Climate Finance;
– For 2020, the implementation of a Global Action Framework for localizing Climate Finance.
Within the framework of the COP22 and co-hosted by the Moroccan Association of Presidents of Local Councils – AMPCC and the Association of Moroccan Regions – ARM, the summit was held on November 14th 2016 in Marrakech, with the support of 24 international networks and local and regional government coalitions. The summit brought together 1100 participants from 114 countries, representing 780 Local and Regional Governments. The African continent was widely represented with local and regional leaders coming from 50 countries, as well as 11 representatives from Small Island States.
